TMZ says the two stars became close friends while filming Scary Movie 5 in September, and Lohan opened up to Sheen about her mounting tax debt.
Insiders told the website that the actor offered to give her the money to cover the debt, but Lohan refused.
However, a source close to Lohan revealed that the actress's business manager later received a check from Sheen for $100,000.
The source added that she put the money towards her debt, cutting it nearly in half.
By the end of the year, Lohan is expected to earn more than $2 million, much of which comes from her acting comeback in Liz & Dick.
Her performance in the Elizabeth Taylor biopic has already been slammed by critics.
