Mel Doyle: My secret's out

Mel Doyle opens up to New Idea about looking and feeling better than ever and about life after Sunrise.

Stepping out from the news desk, Melissa Doyle is posing for the camera in a stunning slimline dress.

"I'm not a model," she laughingly protests, pressed to bop around by the photographer.

"I’m a journalist!"

After 14 years co-hosting Sunrise – not to mention covering Prince William and Kate’s wedding, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Barack Obama’s inauguration, the Beaconsfield Mine rescue, three Olympic Games, plus a slew of state and federal elections – her credentials can’t be in any doubt.

But the presenter best known to fans as ‘Mel’ has visibly thrived on new challenges since leaving Brekky Central, and her old mate, co-host David Koch, in the middle of last year.

Her smile’s infectious, her eyes are bright and she has shed around 10kg.

Cutting out snacks, getting more sleep and taking better care of herself – these are key secrets behind Mel’s amazing new look.

In the past couple of years, the star has shed two dress sizes, grown her hair, started lifting weights at the gym, hit the treadmill and generally cleaned up her act.

"I think you have stages in your life where you have different priorities," explains the tireless charity patron.

"In my 30s, I had two small children, a full-time job, house and husband, just like anybody else. Spending time on myself wasn’t at the top of the list. But somehow I’m finding more time for me."
