Hugh Jackman has joked about the Bond role he turned down.

Les Miserables actor Hugh Jackman, 44, was offered the role of James Bond in 2006's Casino Royale, but turned it down to focus on his role as Wolverine in X-Men.

After seeing Daniel Craig take the lead as 007, Jackman said he might be rethinking his decision.

He told The Sun: "At the time it was wrong for me, but when I saw Daniel in the movie I thought maybe I should have been more interested, because it was great."

He added: "But I am great mates with Daniel. When he was in Australia we caught up and, you know, no one could have played Bond better."

However, Jackman joked of Craig, also 44:

"I will just wait. The good thing about Daniel is he’s, what, 62 now, isn’t he? He’s falling apart at the seams."

He explained: "So I just keep telling him, ‘I’m ready, whenever you want to let him go, I’m ready’.

"The good thing is I have also got a British passport."
