Winter miracle masks

While our skin loves a facial, sometimes time or budget doesn’t always allow the luxury. The cooler months are the perfect time to stay in and pop on a weekly mask for healthier, glowing skin. But how do you choose?

‘Masks have different actions and benefits depending on their formulations,’ beauty therapist Amy Erbacher says. ‘You may apply a cream mask for hydration, a clay mask to draw out impurities or a vitamin mask to give your skin a boost. What mask you select for your skin depends on what your skin concern is.’

INSTANT IMPROVEMENT
Amy says the correct mask will achieve visible results in minutes.
‘If you have inflamed and sensitive skin and you apply an oatmeal calming mask, it will reduce the inflammation. If you have dehydrated skin and you apply a deep-hydrating mask, your skin will look a lot fresher.’

Just don’t forget to exfoliate first! ‘It’s great to remove dead skin cells to benefit circulation and reveal fresh new cells,’ Amy says. ‘This allows for the mask to penetrate more deeply and to do what it has set out to do.’

Top tip
To get the results you want, remember clay masks are setting masks that usually absorb oil, dirt and impurities, says Amy, whereas cream masks are great for hydration and won’t set.
