So instead of spending lots of money on expensive and complex products, look for the simple ones. Here's how a few farm-fresh wonders can make you look great on the outside and feel fabulous on the inside.

GRAPEFRUIT

How it will help

Full of vitamin C, grapefruit has been found to increase weight loss when eaten before a main meal. Studies have also shown it can lower cholesterol. It's a highly effective antibacterial cleansing agent and useful as an ingredient in products for greasy hair and skin because it doesn't strip natural oils. Its astringent properties help cleanse and remove product build-up.

AVOCADO

How it will help

Mashed avocado to their skin or hair - it's packed with oils, protein and vitamins. To reduce puffy eyes and flesh out wrinkles, slice a peeled avocado, put a few pieces under each eye and relax for about 20 minutes.

MUSHROOM

How it will help

For more than 3000 years, mushrooms have been used to boost immunity. Now, according to Dr Andrew Weil, the man behind Origins Mega-Mushroom range, mushroom extract is a major breakthrough in the beauty world because it's been proven to improve lacklustre skin tone and facial redness.

POMEGRANATE

How it will help

This tropical fruit is bursting with antioxidants, which are said to help protect against cancer when consumed. When added to skincare products, pomegranate can help reduce pore size, combat the nasty free radicals that cause premature ageing, and strengthen our skin.

ORANGE

How it will help

When we think of this gorgeous citrus fruit, vitamin C springs to mind - eating oranges is one of the easiest ways to get our daily dose of the health-booster. Oranges are also considered to be beneficial for cleansing our skin because they have astringent and antibacterial properties - and they're often used in moisturising products too.

CHERRY

How it will help

Renowned for their health-giving benefits, cherries are packed with antioxidant vitamin A and vitamin C to protect and balance our skin. Cherry kernel oil is similar to sweet almond oil (a favourite ingredient in beauty recipes) and has impressive moisturising powers.
