The shocking truth behind Terri Irwin's surprise decision to pull back from public life has been revealed - she has fallen in love with a 'controversial' mystery man, and plans to quit Australia Zoo to be with him in the US.
The 51-year-old made the shock admission to loved ones after court documents revealed that she and children Bindi, 17, and Bob, 12, want to ‘step back’ from their hectic public profiles.

But sources say the mum-of-two's surprise decision to take a break from the harsh realities of filming and celebrity life is thanks to her secret man, who's based in the US.
'Terri's been seeing an American man for quite some time,' an insider reveals.
‘They’re both very private people, and for a long time Terri has felt that it’s best that they keep their romance secret – even Bindi and Robert were in the dark until quite recently.'
Rumours of a ‘controversial’ secret lover – believed to be connected to her late husband, ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Steve – first began swirling back in 2009, when well-placed sources revealed Terri was desperately trying to keep the romance under wraps.
‘Terri is still being a little secretive over who her boyfriend is, because it will create headlines,’ says the insider. ‘But she’s happier than she’s ever been, and we’re all really excited for her.'
