Duchess Catherine's safety fears

Prince William and Duchess Kate’s upcoming tour of India and Bhutan has left friends and family horrified that the future monarchs will be exposed to danger and deadly conditions.

Kidnappings and terrorist threats in the region are high- level concerns for palace officials, along with the risk of deadly diseases such as dengue fever, rabies, malaria and hepatitis.

The growing list of threats has left royal security detail nervous about whether they can keep the duke and duchess safe.

Wills, 33, and Kate, 34, will have to endure a nail-biting landing at the tiny Paro airport – regarded as the world’s most dangerous – before navigating the many 5000m-high cliff faces and tiny roads with no safety barriers.

‘Only eight pilots in the world are qualified to land at Paro,’ says the insider. ‘No-one in the palace realised this until it was too late, and they’re now going through the process of providing adequate training to get William and Kate’s personal pilot up to speed.'

Despite the warnings, Wills and Kate are refusing to cancel their tour – which will include a meeting with Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema, who welcomed a son on February 5.

‘They have every intention of going,’ says the palace aide.

‘Kate is a fearless, modern woman and wants to follow in the footsteps of Princess Diana.'
