Hollywood is in uproar after shocking new pictures have emerged of Christina Aguilera, 35, sitting in her car next to her fiance Matthew Rutler, who looks to be driving the vehicle with the couple's 18-month-old child Summer Rain on his lap.

The public have expressed their outrage over the couple’s behaviour, quickly drawing comparisons to Britney Spears, who drove with son Sean on her lap back in 2006.

According to a witness, the shocking lapse in judgement took place when Matt, 30, and his daughter Summer returned from a coffee shop across the street.

‘Christina was in the passenger seat of the car and it was stopped by the side of the road, but not in a parking space,' the witness reports.

'Matt got in the car and was playing with Summer on his lap. Then he must have seen a parking space, so he just started the car and pulled out into the traffic. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. It was a very dangerous, risky move.’

While the witness confirms that Matt did pull into a parking space further up the street and placed Summer back in her child seat while they waited for their assistant to return with food, the couple’s actions have drawn widespread criticism.

Wayne Ziese, spokesperson for the California Office for Traffic Safety, says, if this did happen, their actions would have been a clear violation of the law.

‘Carrying a baby is a danger for the child and a distraction for the parent. If there’s a mishap, a collision of any kind, there is a huge danger to that child if they strike anything. If there’sa front-end crash and they suffer head injuries, it’s likely to be fatal – even at a low speed. It’s very dangerous behaviour,’ said Wayne.

Let’s hope the backlash following this incident will deter Matt and Christina – and others – from taking such a reckless risk with their child again.
