Sunrise defend the SATC skit

Yesterday the TV presenters of Sunrise, including Sam Armytage, Natalie Barr and Edwina Bartholemew, came under fire for a skit which showed them re-enacting a scene from Sex And The City.

The sketch featured Sex And The City's Kristen Davis, who was in Australia to promote her work with the UNHCR.

Afterwards Kristen told her Twitter followers: "Hopefully someone will let me talk about @Refugees".

Viewers of the show slammed the segment, saying more time should've been spent talking about Kristen's charity work.

One user commented: "That was the worst piece of TV I've ever seen. Kristin, you and your charity work is great."

Another said: "Shame that Kristin came to talk about something important..."

This morning, the Sunrise presenters apologised for the segment, and defended their decision to take part in the skit.

"We spoke to Kristen extensively in her appearance yesterday about her important work in this area for several minutes at the start of the interview," explained Kochie.

"Unfortunately everyone forgot about that bit and just focused on the end of the segment where we did the Sex And The City sketch - just like shows around the world do all the time, have a bit of fun.

"It was meant to be fun and Kristen was a great sport to put up with terrible acting... but Kristen was apparently offended and we're very sorry if you are, it certainly wasn't our intention."

Sam added: "We are Sex And The City tragics at Sunrise. I absolutely love that show but we certainly weren't trying to poke fun at the show of its stars, really we were just poking fun at us. The real crime there was against acting."

Kochie also added that Sunrise were big supporters of the UNHCR, who had even approached Sam Armytage to MC one of their charity events.

Sam revealed: "Sunrise also partnered with the UNHCR in promoting a fundraising event in Kristen's honour. I was asked to MC that event and hold a Q&A with Kristen onstage, I immediately accepted."

However, after yesterday's skit, Sam was asked not to be involved at all, with Kochie saying: "The organisers have asked Sam not to host the event, or to attend it at all, which was unexpected. We wish them the best of luck with the event.

He finished by adding: "We have the upmost respect for Kristen and more importantly UNHCR. We are sorry for their acting skills and for the Twitter trolls targeting Sam for donning a wig. Give it a rest."
