Earth, Wind & Fire's founder Maurice White has died

Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White has passed away at the age of 74.

'My brother, hero and best friend Maurice White passed away peacefully last night in his sleep,' his brother Verdine White told the Associated Press on Thursday.

'While the world has lost another great musician and legend, our family asks that our privacy is respected as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.'

The reason for his death is still unknown, however, he had been suffering from Parkinson's disease since he was diagnosed in 1992.

Maurice was forced him to pull out of touring in 1994 as his health continued to decline due to the disease.
