Angelina Jolie's bizarre new diet of spiders and insects has seen her weight plummet to under 40kg, leaving husband Brad Pitt worried for her health.

The super-skinny star has been munching on the unusual delicacies - including fried tarantulas, beetles, and crickets roasted with salt and pepper - on the set of her new movie in Cambodia, sparking serious diet concerns.

'Brad's noticed that she's looking particularly skinny and gaunt lately, and he's not happy,' says an insider close to the actor.

'He told her that eating bugs is madness, but Ange insisted that if it was good enough for the Cambodian locals, it was good enough for her.'

Creepy-crawlies are readily available at night markets in Siem Reap, where Ange, 40, is directing First They Killed My Father: A Daughter Of Cambodia Remembers and living with Brad and their brood of six.

An on-set insider tells New Idea: 'It's good that Angie's showing solidarity with the Cambodian people - many of them can't afford to eat meat often like Western people.

'But replacing normal food with bugs isn't a good move.'
