Celine Dion to make the most of her last Christmas with her sick husband

Celine Dion brought the audience to tears with her emotional performance singing Edith Piaf's Hymne a l'Amour at the American Music Awards.

But despite putting on a brave face in public, behind closed doors Celine is fighting her own private battle: to be the source of strength for her cancer-stricken husband Rene Angelil and their children.

Sources close to the star say that this is 'likely' to be Rene's last Christmas.

'This is very likely the last Christmas they'll celebrate with Rene,' said a friend.

'Celine is trying to make the most of whatever time they have left with Rene.'

Married for 21 years, Celine, 47, and her husband Rene, 73, were devastated when he was diagnosed with terminal throat cancer in 2013.

'She won't allow the house to descend into gloom and doom,' says a source.

'She does her best to fill her boys' lives with fun and excitement. But I also think every day has become more meaningful to them given what the family is going through.'

The singer first met Rene when she was 12 and he was 38 - they started dating when she was 19 - and says she will be there by his side until the end.

Together the couple have three kids - Rene-Charles, 14, and twins Nelson and Eddy, aged five.

'You can have your shaking knees at the end, but when someone you love falls and needs help, it's not time to cry,' the singer revealed in an interview earlier this year about her husband's illness.
