At The Block open inspections, popular contestants Dean and Shay Paine had double cause for celebration. Added to their pride at showing off their stunning apartment, they were privately revelling in the happy news that Shay was eight weeks pregnant.
But over the next two days, their joy and excitement turned to heartbreak as Shay suffered a devastating miscarriage.

‘On the Monday, I started to feel uncomfortable and experienced some cramping,’ Shay reveals. ‘I kept saying to myself: “It will be all right” but it just got consistently worse over the next two days, and that’s when we lost the baby.’
'We were both devastated,' Dean, 30, says.
Despite their sadness, the couple are determined to stay positive.
‘We’re very blessed,’ Shay says. ‘We already have a beautiful little girl and maybe it just wasn’t the right time for us.’
