Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla will arrive in Adelaide this afternoon after their visit to New Zealand.

The royal pair will head to Tanunda in South Australia’s Barossa Valley before going to Seppeltsfield for some wine tasting.

Barossa Council mayor Bob Sloane said his council found out about the royal visit just month ago.

'It's been very hectic ... we got about four weeks' notice that they were coming and had to put everything together very quickly,' he said to ABC News.

'We've got a big area where the general public can be. Hopefully Charles and Camilla will walk down that area and shake hands with quite a lot of them.'

After the wine tour, the Prince and Duchess will meet with South Australian Governor Hieu Van Le and SA Premier Jay Weatherill.

Later in the afternoon, the Duchess of Cornwall is scheduled to attend a domestic violence conference at Government House while Prince Charles will visit an ecologically-sustainable community in Bowden.
