It was the win that truly stopped Australia in its tracks and earned champion jockey Michelle Payne a place in sporting history.
While she’s still caught up in the whirl of her incredible Melbourne Cup win, the feisty 30-year-old is already focused on the next chapter of her exciting life: motherhood.

‘I am looking forward to having a family and settling down, and hopefully that’s in the not-too-distant future,’ Michelle tells New Idea in an exclusive interview.
She also opened up about her mother's tragic passing in 1986.
'I do believe my mum looks after me, and I feel so much faith thinking that she is riding with me and is with me in everyday life, whenever I need her,’ says Michelle
Michelle's oldest sister and fellow jockey, Brigid, died of a heart attack eight years ago at age 38, while her brother Michael passed before she was even born.
However, despite her family tragedies, Michelle also knows how lucky she is to have her father, horseman Paddy Payne and supportive brother Stevie - the strapper for his sister’s Melbourne Cup horse, Prince of Penzance.

Stevie, who was born with Down syndrome, is a source of inspiration to those who surround him believes Michelle.
'Everybody gets caught up in everything, but at the end of the day we’re all just here for a short time, so we may as well enjoy it. That’s how Stevie lives it,’ she says.
