Wills and Kate introduced their daughter on May 2, just hours after she was brought into the world.

Being held by her doting parents on the steps of St Mary's Lindo Wing, like so many of her royal relatives before her, the little one stole the hearts of the assembled media and all over the world.

The new Princess Charlotte - which is undoubtedly also a nod to her grandfather Prince Charles - follows in the footsteps of George III's wife, Queen Charlotte and George IV's only child.

It was highly speculated that the royal couple would incorporate the name Diana into the little one's moniker in some capacity, to honour Wills' late mother, Princess Diana, who died in 1997.

The royal couple also chose to honour the child's great grandmother, the reigning Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II.

Charlotte is also the middle name of Kate's younger sister, Pippa and Elizabeth is her mother, Carole's middle name.

As soon as the Palace confirmed the birth of a girl, bookmakers went into overdrive, taking bets on what the baby would be called.

Paddy Power in the UK had pegged Charlotte as the frontrunner, slashing the odds to 3/1, closely followed by Alice at 4/1 and Victoria and Olivia at 5/1.
