"Liza Minnelli has valiantly battled substance abuse over the years and whenever she has needed to seek treatment she has done so. She is currently making excellent progress at an undisclosed facility," Scott said in a statement.

"Considering she's doing so well, we expect that she'll be released shortly."

Liza has sought treatment for substance abuse previously, including addiction to alcohol and prescription drug use in 1984 following the death of her mother, Judy Garland.

The late Wizard of Oz star suffered from her own demons with alcohol and drug addiction, which led to her untimely death at the age of 47 in 1969.

A close friend of Liza's told People how she fears she is is following in her famous mum's tragic footsteps, saying: "She's living her mother's career all over again – being the biggest star in show business, peaking out in films, the weird marriages, the pills, the booze."
