Neighbour shocks with angry letter about kids 'disturbing the peace'

As Sydney enters its sixth week of lockdown it's understandable that some people might be struggling with various things they are dealing with in their homes or neighbourhoods.

However, one family has shared the letter they received from an unhappy neighbour, who decided it was too much to have children playing outside too early in the morning.

The Mosman-based family took to a community Facebook group to anonymously share a photo of a letter they received titled 'NOISE COMPLAINT'.

"Please refrain [from] letting your kids out to the backyard before 9am," the letter read.

"Congratulations on your renovations. Your neighbours have endured many months of construction noise and now we are being disturbed by your kids in the backyard early in the morning.

"We wish to request that you keep your young kids indoors until 9am.

"There have been many occasions in recent times when [your] kids are out in the backyard early in the morning and they have been very loud and noisy. They are disturbing the peace in the neighbourhood and waking people up."

"Sometimes they are out very early around 7.30am and unfortunately they have very loud voices. Your son in particular is always screaming [at the] top of his voice."

"Kids will be kids but I'm simply asking if they can go out later so your neighbours are not [awoken] too early in the morning.

"Thank you for your co-operation and appreciate your kind understanding," the letter ends, signed off by 'Your Concerned Neighbours'.

It's not the first time a letter like this has done the rounds on social media. One particular note, shared during lockdown a in 2020 was blasted online for being 'unfair' to the mother trying to work from home.

The Melbourne woman shared the note on a private Facebook group in April last year, explaining she received the letter in the mail.

“As if life isn’t hard enough at the moment with work and home schooling,” the mother wrote. “But now I can’t let my kids in the back yard because they will make noise.”

Similarly, a different neighbour was roasted for ridiculous note they sent during lockdown in May 2020.

This particular note for a mum asked her to limit the amount of time her toddler plays outdoors to just 15 minutes per day.

Bobbie Hineman uploaded a screenshot of the note to her Twitter, alongside the caption: “Yes, it’s real.”

“Dear ‘neighbour’, You moved to the neighbourhood a year ago and I wanted to give you time to correct this problem on your own, but you are apparently too inconsiderate to do so,” the note started.

“Every day this week, when the weather has been nice and windows are open, you proceed to let your small child run free in your backyard and laugh and giggle and carry on without end.

“This is very disruptive for my two dogs and my bird who sits next to the window and like to look into your yard."
