NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is added to 'Madden NFL 21' video game

When we talk about NBA players being able to make it in the NFL, it always centers on LeBron James.

What about the 6-11 NBA MVP with the 7-3 wingspan who spins around elite defenders and dunks with ease?

EA Sports had a fun announcement on Thursday. Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo will be added to the “Madden NFL 21” video game.

Antetokounmpo brothers on new ‘Madden’

Antetokounmpo and his brothers Thanasis and Kostas will be put in the long-running football video game. They’ll be a part of “The Yard,” a new game mode this year. It’s a 6-on-6 game meant to replicate backyard football.

Here’s a hint: Throw jump balls in the end zone to them.

Could Giannis play in the NFL?

Giannis Antetokounmpo is without question one of the best athletes in the world. If you’ve ever seen him go end-to-end in what seems like three steps, there isn’t much doubt about it.

However, there’s a reason nobody is as tall as Antetokounmpo is in the NFL. There’s not a natural position for someone who is 6-11. Wide receiver would seem like the best position — imagine Giannis lining up across from a 5-10 corner trying to figure out what to do with him — but that would only work until the first time Giannis went up to catch a high pass. That’s a big target for a defensive back to hit.

It doesn’t matter. Antetokounmpo is pretty good at basketball and isn’t going to be switching over anytime soon. But it’ll be fun to see him with a football in his hands virtually.
