An excited mum-to-be has had her baby name pick quashed by critics after asking for opinions in an online forum.
The anonymous woman took to Mumsnet seeking advice about the girl’s name ‘Princess’ – but was quickly hit with a barrage of negative feedback.
“Unless you’re giving birth to a teacup chihuahua, it’s a no from me,” read one person’s harsh response.
“Dreadful,” sharply wrote another.
A stream of others were equally harsh, with one even suggesting having the moniker would lead to ‘endless teasing’ for the child’s entire life.
Another point of conversation was how ex-glamour model Katie Price and singer Peter Andre chose the name for their daughter as she was ‘their little princess’.
However the youngster’s father once admitted that even Princess herself had trouble with the name and even considered changing it as a seven-year-old.
“Princess is telling me she doesn’t want me to call her Princess,” he told Hello magazine in 2014.
Given the name’s obvious royal connotation, some users were quick to use say regality was the only excuse for bestowing the title on a child.
“You should only be called Princess if you are a Princess,” read one blunt suggestion.
“The only excuse is if you’re a senior royal and planning to team it with a proper name.”
Although it’s unlikely the mysterious user was royal mum-to-be Meghan Markle, at least she’s got an excuse if the royal baby’s much-anticipated moniker is a very regal one.
