This mum’s Christmas dilemma will make you gasp

A mum has revealed she is facing a bit of a dilemma ahead of Christmas this year and took to social media to ask for advice.

Sharing her situation in a Facebook group the mum Sophie sparked a debate about whether or not the family should cook some of their own pet animals for Christmas dinner.

“Feel this may upset some people so apologies in advance if this is a sensitive topic,” she said in the post.

Sophie starts off by explaining that the family has had a rough year financially, accounts are maxed out leaving no budget for the usual Christmas dinner.

“We live on five acres and have loads of chickens, a goat, and a pet pig,” she continues. “Would it be wrong to cook them for Christmas? Not the goat, just two of the chickens and the pig?

She then goes on to ask what, if anything, she should tell her children if they do decide to cook them.

“Should we avoid telling the kids and replace them when we are more financially stable, or be honest and use this as a learning opportunity to teach them about finance and the food chain?

“Thank you and please no judgement,” she concluded the post.

Some said there was nothing wrong with eating the animals, and believed the children should be told.

“Tell the kids, it’s part of life,” one person commented. “We knew as kids that the lambs we ate used to be the ones we fed and played with at our uncle’s farm.”

“I think you should do what you have to, if that’s your option then take it,” another said.

“Kids who grow up on property tend to know about the circle of life and where their breakfast bacon comes from so you’re probably safe,” was one comment.

Some said she should go ahead but don’t tell the kids.

“Not wrong at all but I probably wouldn’t tell the kids,” was one response.

“I feel like it would be too sad and not fair to tell the kids,” another wrote.

“My nana killed and cooked my mum’s pet pig and she is still upset about it at 63 years old.”

While others couldn’t believe she was even considering eating the family pets.

“I can’t believe what I just read,” one exasperated person commented.

“Are they pets with names the children are attached too? If so, I wouldn’t cook them,” another added.

“I think I’d rather have a veggie Christmas than eat my pets,” was another comment.

“I’d never eat a pet. How cruel to the kids losing a member of the family for one meal,” one person wrote.

Some even went so far as to suggest using charities like Vinnies, or even offered money themselves.

“Please message me. I’d rather give you $20 to help buy some meat than for you to have to eat your pets,” one person offered.
