Mum willing to pay someone to teach 'lazy' sons and husband how to do chores

A mum has become so desperate for help around the house that she is offering to pay almost $20 an hour for a nanny to teach her sons and husband how to do chores.

The mum from Birmingham, UK, posted a job advert for an after-school nanny on childcare.co.uk saying she had been trying to get her husband to do his fair share of housework for years.

Wondering if he even knows how to do half the things she does – like washing clothes and ironing – she is worried his attitude is rubbing off on their sons, aged 11 and nine.

“Obviously this is probably something loads of couples go through, but we’ve got two sons and I’m worried his bad attitude towards housework, particularly that it’s the job of women in the house, is rubbing off on them,” the mum wrote in the ad.

“My husband’s amazing, he gives so much for our family and I appreciate everything he does for us, but his attitude to housework is just appalling and I don’t want [my son’s] future wives to have the same problem!”

The mum, who used to be home just after 3pm, says she is starting a new job next month which won’t see her home until 7pm. So she is looking for someone to pick her boys up from school and look after them until either her or hubby get home.

“However, I also want the carer to teach my boys, including my husband, how to do the chores around the house,” she adds. “For me, the most important stuff to think about is; teaching them how to cook, clean, hoover, wash up, do the washing, putting clothes away, and ironing.

“I’d also like the child carer to stay for an extra hour after we get home from work so that my husband can see the kids doing some chores, and learn a bit himself.”

The mum admits she might sound like she is complaining, but she is already “shattered” every day and just wants to spend time with her family.

“I love my family so much and I hate that I have to spend so much of my time doing house work, I feel like if the four of us did all of it together we’d just get so much more time together,” she says.

Some people seemed sympathetic to her situation suggesting other ways she might be able to get some extra help.

“He’s no gentleman. He should lift his feet,” one person commented online.

“Go away for a week, leave a pile of washing up in the sink, no clothes washed or ironed, no grocery shopping done, no food prepared,” another suggested.

“Just pay for a cleaner and be done with it,” was another comment.

Some guys however took offence to the post.

“The reason I don’t do the housework, is because according to my wife, I ‘do it wrong’. She then does it her way, so why bother in the first place,” one husband responded.

Shall I put an ad in the paper for a mechanic to teach my ‘lazy’ wife how to check the air in her car tyres and fill the washer fluid?” another person wrote.
