Mum’s surprise $150k scratchie win
A New South Wales mother received an unexpected thrill after finding out the scratchie she thought was worth $1000 actually worth a lot more than she expected.
The Goulburn woman had been sitting on the ticket since Mother’s Day and got the shock of her life when she was told it was actually worth $150,000.
“I took it down the other day to finally get it checked with a couple of other tickets,” she said.
“The team member at the newsagency … thought I had won $1000, but told me to confirm with The Lott. I sent it off in the mail and then I received a phone call.
“The Lott Prize Administration team member said she was calling about my $150,000 Instant Scratch-Its win and I was dumbfounded. I said to her, ‘Are you sure? Is that real?’
“I thought I’d won $1000, so it was such a nice surprise — I didn’t expect it at all!”
She said she had already been heading on an interstate holiday before the win, so she’ll celebrate while away, and will likely use the cash sensibly to pay down some debt.
The winning scratchie was sold at Newsextra Goulburn; owners Peter and Allison Watt say they’re overjoyed to have sold a top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket to a local woman.
“We’ve sold 16 major lottery prizes over 22 years of operating, but we haven’t sold a top prize in five years since moving to our new location,” Peter said.
“There’s no doubt this will be the start of our winning streak for Newsextra Goulburn, and we hope to grace more customers with wins in the coming months!”
