A single mum-of-two has been proposed to by a near-total stranger, just one hour after they first met.

The shock move is part of the new, aptly-named dating show The Proposal, which aims to compound a couple’s love story into its hour-long airtime.

Each episode will see eight singletons compete for the affection of one mystery love interest, with hope of a certain question ultimately being popped.

The twist? None of the contestants know what the person whose affections they’re competing for looks like – and their offer of marriage could ultimately be rejected.

The Proposal’s pilot is set to feature Jess, a single mum of two daughters whose ‘ultimate dream’ is to get married.

“I may not have many material things to give, but I have a lot of love. I have a lot of love and I think that that’s enough,” she says in the promo.

However, winning Jess’ heart won’t be easy and contestants will face four rounds, with hopefuls being dropped at each before a decision is made.

First up is first impressions round, followed by beachwear, and the finally answering some romantic and confronting questions and ultimately getting the tick of approval from a family member.

In its trailer, Jess is seen putting a bevy of eligible bachelors through their paces in a bid to decipher who could be the one.

But will she say yes?

The Proposal will air later this year on Channel Seven.
