Mother-in-law from hell puts groom in 'chokehold'

A furious bride-to-be has claimed her future mother-in-law ruined her upcoming nuptials and put the groom in a ‘chokehold’ for not following her plans.

The dramatic family fallout was detailed in a Reddit post, where the bride exposed the extent to which her plans were altered by her fiancé’s imposing mother.

“FMIL (future mother-in-law) essentially wanted us to replan everything about the wedding,” the bride began, adding the nuptials were just three weeks away.

She went on to explain her big day’s ‘venue, guest list, catering, outfits, makeup, seating arrangement, officiant, and place of reception’ were all in the firing line of things her mother-in-law wanted changed.

These woes were further compounded by her future mother-in-law’s dramatic tactics for getting exactly what she wants.

“She doesn't like varying from tradition, so she's been giving us s**t via text, call, email, showing up at home, work, following our cars if she sees us around town,” the bride explained.

“She more than doubled our guest list and handed us an RSVP sheet.

“She talked to my DJ, and changed the theme of music, the song we were walking to, and added a dance floor package, talked to the wedding party and rearranged who was doing what.”

The alleged drama culminated on Mother’s Day when the woman put her own son - the groom - into a ‘chokehold’ when he attempted to rebut her planned alterations to the wedding.

“All she said over and over was ‘you WILL do what I say!’ over and over and over,” the bride-to-be wrote of the exchange.

“(The groom) got pissed off and said ‘f*** it! Do whatever you want! I don’t care!’ (His mother) then smiled and let him go.”

Following this dramatic encounter, the couple chose to cancel their weeks-away wedding and elope instead.

“We are devastated. I've been through three days of pure, boiling anger, and now I haven't stopped crying since coming home from work yesterday,” the bride wrote.

However despite the family fallout, users were quick to validate the bride’s woes, agreeing the alleged violence was completely unacceptable.

“The groom’s mother put him in a chokehold! He doesn't need this woman in his life, let alone his wedding!” insisted one user.

“Don't go ahead with the wedding just because you put money into it,” wrote another.

“What's going to happen to you if you get legally entangled with a dude who's already too tangled up in his mother's web?”

Although dramatic, this is far from the first time a bride has butted heads with her future mother-in-law.

One March, one woman claimed her husband’s mother demanded a wedding refund five years after the pair were married.
