The Most Popular Lady Was Dior at Notre Dame Cathedral Reopening With Brigitte Macron, Jill Biden and More First Ladies Favoring the Same Handbag Line
To have and to hold — French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife Brigitte went monochromatic in all-black for her appearance on Saturday at the Notre Dame Cathedral reopening ceremony in Paris, arriving in a coat dress with her constant companion of the evening whose name wasn’t Emmanuel.
Instead, the French first lady was married to Lady Dior, holding the line’s Mini bag complete with Cannage stitching and D.I.O.R. charms in a gold metal finish.

Dior created the line in 1995, named after Diana, Princess of Wales. Prices for the bag range from $10,000 to $3,900. Nearly 30 years later, it’s still a popular bag.
Macron’s American counterpart, U.S. first lady Jill Biden, shared her tastes: both carried Lady Dior, though Biden opted for a larger model. Macron sat next to Biden and her daughter Ashley, and incoming U.S. president Donald Trump, who was seated alongside her husband Emmanuel.
Macron greeted several global leaders and boldface names at the cathedral, including Prince William, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, and former French president Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who served as first lady of France from 2008 to 2012.
Along with Macron and Biden, Bruni-Sarkozy also accessorized with Lady Dior, matching her dress by the Dior fashion house with the collection’s limited edition Python bag in green featuring a reptilian design and metallic charms. Also from the Lady Dior collection, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s wife Elke favored the Lady Dior Pouch, which the first lady removed its chain and carried it like a clutch.
The allure of the Lady Dior line continues with the recent ninth edition of the Dior Lady Art Project, where artists crafted iterations that explored nature, ancestral traditions and sacred symbols — bringing storytelling and design together. There are 30 limited-edition styles available, with prices ranging from 7,000 euros to 25,000 euros.
The Notre Dame Cathedral reopening comes five years after a devastating fire. Restoration, costing hundreds of millions of euros, involved around 250 companies and numerous experts, meticulously preserving its Gothic essence and nearly 850-year history. Approximately 50 global leaders attended, along with notable guests like François-Henri Pinault, Salma Hayek and Elon Musk.
