Mom Reveals Clever Cat Technique to Inspire Children's Reading
For kids who are not enthusiastic about reading, it can be a massive challenge to get them to open a book for 10 minutes a day. The battle to get them to do it can be exhausting for everyone involved, which doesn't encourage them to love literature.
That's why when this mother rescued a kitten, she also seized the opportunity with this new family member to encourage her son to read. Now, he's happily doing it daily with his furry pal by his side.
See the brilliant trick she employed in this video shared on August 12:
This is such a clever idea! Allyssa (@farmerlissie) reveals that when she saved a kitten from the ditch across the street, she discovered a way to use this tiny feline to inspire her son to open his books. For him to receive his daily TV privileges, he must read to Boris the kitten first. Now, instead of fighting about this activity, she can watch them sitting together and sharing a story. Not only doesn't it help get the homework done, but it's also a great bonding experience for the two. My goodness! They couldn't be any cuter!
How Pets Can Help Make Reading Fun for Kids
The presence of a pet helps create a calm and encouraging environment. One published study found that children who read to dogs improved their reading skills faster than those who didn't. Unlike reading out loud in front of their peers, animals don't judge or interrupt. Besides improving literary capabilities, research done by the American Humane Society also shows that having pets in the classroom positively impacts social skills. When children look forward to these reading sessions, it can help build their enthusiasm, and it can also help them develop daily routines, which make them more likely to stay on track.
People were impressed by this Mom's creative and educational idea. Viewer @galecader reported, "We did this with our dog. The dog would get excited when we said it was reading time." That must have been so encouraging. Viewer @tatischnauzer responded, "This is simply lovely, and everybody wins!" That's for sure. Another person remarked, "Such a sweet boy! Building more than just reading skills there!" There's no doubt about it.
If you plan to get a new pet or the cat distribution selects you, this is a terrific way to get kids involved in education and animal care. If you can't have a pet, consider taking your little ones to a shelter to read cats and dogs. In addition to enhancing their cognitive skills, it will create lasting memories and improve the lives of animals in need.
