Molly Sims Reflects on Her Time on MTV Spring Break, Including Her '90s Fashion Choices: 'It Was a Different Time' (Exclusive)

Molly Sims is taking a trip down memory lane.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE about her partnership with Natrol, a sleep supplement brand, the 51-year-old actress, model and mom opened up about her MTV days, including her time on MTV Spring Break, which ran on the network from 1986 to 2014.
"Oh my God, being on MTV was crazy," Sims, who hosted Fashionably Loud in 2001, tells PEOPLE. "We used to do it down in Cancun, and it was nuts at the time. The crowds of people were so into it, and MTV was on top of the world. It was so much fun. Carson [Daly] was great, and all the co-hosts, the oldies but goodies, were a blast."
"Looking back now, I think, ‘Oh my God, the live cameras are coming in,’ and you don’t even realize it because you’re just in the moment. It’s wild," she adds.
Reflecting on her time at MTV, Sims says it was a "different time."
"We could get away with a lot more," she recalls. "There were no phones, and the documentation wasn’t like it is today. Back then, we were probably more connected. Now, it feels like everyone is more individual, focused on their phones."
She laughs as she adds, "I saw a picture of myself recently and thought, ‘What in the world?’ But it was a moment. If you look at my Instagram, there’s a post where I’m in a pink bikini with matching pink shorts. I’m like, if I could only fit into that again!"

Aside from her pink bikini outfit, Sims also shares there are some other trends from her MTV days that she doesn't necessarily want to see make a comeback.
"I mean, listen, the shoulder pad situation that’s been happening with all the oversized stuff — let’s just keep it to the oversized pieces, not everything," she says. "We can’t go too far with the oversized trend. But I do love a good blazer, and I still love skinny leather pants from the ‘90s with that oversized look. And skinny jeans? They can never come back."
She adds, "Long live the scrunchie! My daughter now loves scrunchies, which is really odd. But I still like them. I also love how the thinner glasses have come back, thanks to people like Hailey Bieber bringing that whole trend back."
