Yahoo Lifestyle MLB postpones Reds-Royals on Tuesday, teams will play doubleheader Wednesday
The Cincinnati Reds will have to wait another day to resume their season. MLB has postponed Tuesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals. The teams will play a doubleheader Wednesday, the league announced.
The Reds are looking to continue their season after two games against the Pittsburgh Pirates were postponed due to a Reds player testing positive for the coronavirus. The Reds have reportedly tested negative since that positive test, and MLB felt comfortable enough to send the team to Kansas City on Tuesday.
Despite that, MLB is postponing the game, “out of an abundance of caution and to allow for additional testing,” according to a league statement.
At the very least, the postponement gives MLB another day to test everyone on the Reds. If tests come back negative again, the league can feel better about letting the team take the field. If a positive test pops up, the league can feel better knowing it didn’t expose another team to someone who was positive with the virus.
Reds looking for improvement when their season resumes
The Reds entered the season as a contender in the National League Central, but have stumbled out of the gate. Through 20 games, the team sits at 9-11.
The Reds will look to get back to .500 once the team resumes play Wednesday. From there, they’ll have to prove they can hang around in one of the toughest divisions in baseball.
