Yahoo Lifestyle Miley Cyrus Defended Chappell Roan, And I Couldn't Have Said It Better Myself
Whether you've been online or in a festival field, one thing is for certain — Chappell Roan is one of 2024's true breakout pop stars.
If you are fairly online, you've probably witnessed an unbelievable (and, quite frankly, unreasonable) amount of scrutiny that she's faced during her quick ascent as well.
Sometimes, Chappell's received backlash due to her statements regarding the US presidential election that just took place (no spoilers on who won — just kidding).
Other times, she's received criticism simply for doing the kind of things that pop stars do all the time. If you have at least half a brain cell, it's been maddening to witness it all.
If you've also been highly annoyed about all of this, trust that you're not alone. Earlier this year, thee legend Stevie Nicks praised Chappell in a Rolling Stone interview for setting boundaries when it comes to the unreasonable expectations placed upon today's pop stars.
“Me and a friend of mine went and looked at her schedule, and it was outrageous," Stevie told the publication. "What she’s already done and then what she’s going into. It’s as bad as any schedule we ever did, and she’s new, and she’s young...I said, ‘They’ll burn her out if that’s what they want to do, because there’s always somebody to replace you.’ It must make them all very fearful. That’s why it’s good that Chappell just said, ‘Well, go ahead, replace me. I’m canceling because I’m not going to drop dead for all you people.’”
Now, Miley Cyrus — who knows a thing or two when it comes to endless public scrutiny — is speaking up on Chappell's behalf as well.
In a new interview with Harper's Bazaar, Miley revealed that she reached out to Chappell earlier this year to offer her support — and she also said she wishes that "people would not give her a hard time."
“It’s probably really hard coming into this business with phones and Instagram," she added. "That wasn’t always a part of my life, and I’m not a part of it now. I don’t even have my Instagram password.”
Judging by their general conduct against Chappell over the last year, I could think of a few people on social media who could stand to be locked out of their accounts for a bit, too...
