Mikayla Matthews is ready for a fresh start in 2025.

The 24-year-old The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star reflected on her 2024 in a TikTok post on Jan 2, in which she opened up about "removing all toxic things, both from my body and my life" in 2024.

In the video, she included clips of her skin flare-up and filming Mormon Wives, with the caption "started 2024 suffering silently with chronic illness while showing up as best I could to film a reality show" written over the clips.

The video then transitioned to moments from her New Year's celebrations in Times Square in New York with her husband Jace Terry and fellow MomTok member Mayci Neeley. In the text over the video, she wrote that she "started 2025 live on ABC in Times Square, showing that my skin doesn't define me and it gets better."

"I had a whole bunch of issues with my recovery," she explained at the time. "I know it’s easier said than done to just not feel insecure about your insecurities, literally as I sit here crying about my insecurities, but I really am more confident than I’ve been.”

In the first season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Matthews did not have an opportunity to open up about her chronic illness since the show mainly focused on the aftermath of the 2022 soft-swinging sex scandal on MomTok — the infamous group of Mormon moms on TikTok that included other cast members, like Taylor Frankie Paul, Layla Taylor, Demi Engemann and Whitney Leavitt.

But since the show's premiere on Hulu in September, Matthews has used her platform to raise awareness of chronic illness and continued to showcase her ongoing health challenges.

"Filming the whole first season was not only physically exhausting but extremely mentally challenging. I was fighting for my life," she wrote in an Instagram post from Sept. 7. "I want to continue to shed light on the many stages of my chronic illness and chronic illness in general [and] hope to come back again season 2 and share my full story."
