Michigan State long jumper and runner Tony Martin was shot and killed at a gas station in Saginaw, Michigan, on Sunday morning, according to the Detroit Free Press.

He was 19.

Police, per the report, were called to the Sunoco gas station in Saginaw — which sits about 40 miles north of Flint — around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made, and police are currently investigating the incident as a double homicide.

Martin set the Michigan State long jump record while at Saginaw High School jumping 26 feet, 6 inches, according to the Free Press, which is just shy of the national record and ties Olympic legend Carl Lewis’ high school mark.

He competed several times for the Spartans during the winter indoor season earlier this year, setting personal bests in the long jump, 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. The outdoor season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In shock, really,” Martin’s high school coach, DeEddie Sanders, told the Free Press. “[We were] pretty close. He loved track. He was a good guy, never got in trouble … He had a lot of potential in track. This was his first love, long jumping and sprinting.”
