Michael Usher has opened up in a rare candid interview about the ‘dad guilt’ he feels and how the breakdown of his marriage affected him.
Channel Seven’s The Latest presenter juggles his demanding role with co-parenting his three children, Tom, 18, Max, 14, and his 12-year-old daughter Alex.
While he admits in a chat with The Sunday Telegraph's Stellar magazine that it can be taxing, he wouldn’t have it any other way, as his kids are his ‘happiness’.
“It’s a juggle and it comes with a lot of dad guilt, but it works,” he said.
The 60 Minutes reporter and his ex-wife, Annalie Usher, split seven years ago, with the 49-year-old admitting he was a ‘complete wreck’ at the time.
“When you go through a sad time in your life, when you’ve got everything going at speed and you hit a wall and stop dead, you slide down that wall and fall in a heap – and I did that,” he said.
Neither of them have commented publicly on the details of the split, however back in 2016, a source told Woman’s Day ‘the pressure of being on the road’ could have affected it.
He continued saying he used to have to pick himself off the floor after the marriage ended and felt “great shame and embarrassment” over the demise of the relationship.
Michael has now found love again with a mum-of-three and lawyer, just this year.
