Met Gala 2023: Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Florence Pugh, Margot Robbie and Rihanna among stars

The stars came out in force to honour Karl Lagerfeld at the 2023 Met Gala - with Kendall Jenner, Florence Pugh, Margot Robbie and Rihanna among the A-List attendees.

For fashion’s biggest night, Doja Cat and Jared Leto took inspiration from the late fashion designer’s beloved pet cat Choupette for their looks.

British actress Pugh debuted a buzzcut hairdo, while Robbie, Anne Hathaway, Nicole Kidman and Dua Lipa all wore previously worn designs made famous by the designer.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams and Karlie Kloss announced they were pregnant - while Rihanna, who turned up two hours late, also showed off her baby bump in a couture gown by Valentino.

Dame Anna Wintour and actor Bill Nighy made their relationship official on the red carpet - with the Vogue editor-in-chief and Met Gala host walking arm in arm with the British Oscar-nominee.

The biggest names in music, performance and fashion were asked to don outfits that paid tribute to Lagerfeld - who died in 2019 - and was known for his work with brands Chanel, Fendi and his own eponymous label.

The event marked the opening of the New York Metropolitan Museum’s new art exhibition, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.

Cat-themed outfits featured heavily in a nod to Lagerfeld’s beloved pet - who was reportedly invited to attend, but did not make an appearance. Lagerfeld famously left over £1 million to his cat in his will.

Marking her first Met Gala appearance, Doja Cat donned an eye-catching, full-body outfit Oscar de la Renta look. Fellow rapper Lil Nas X wore a metallic thong and silver paint covering his entire body in an apparent nod to Choupette. Less subtle was Oscar-winning actor Leto, who stole the show in a giant white fluffy cat costume.

Dame Anna wore a coat that seemed to have small cat motifs embroidered on it.

Elsewhere, Midsommar star Pugh debuted a fresh buzzcut for her first outing at the Met Gala. The new look is for her upcoming film We Live In Time.

Barbie actor Robbie wore a remade version of the dress supermodel Cindy Crawford originally wore on the Chanel catwalk in 1993.

Singer Dua Lipa, who was co-chair of the event, wore a Chanel dress from the autumn 1992 collection originally worn by Claudia Schiffer.

Kidman wore a pink gown that she wore to star in the 2004 advertisement for the fragrance Chanel No5, directed by Baz Luhrmann.

Wearing Versace, The Devil Wears Prada actor Hathaway wore a white version of the safety pin dress once worn by Elizabeth Hurley.

Model Cara Delevigne paid tribute to the designer with her outfit choice - a white shirt-style dress with black leggings. She also wore a short blonde wig to emulate Lagerfeld’s hair.

The model, who was a muse of Lagerfeld, said she found the night emotional. “It is a big night, yeah, a lot of emotions honestly. I cried on the way here a little bit,” she told Vogue.

Fellow model Gigi Hadid also took inspiration from Lagerfeld - wearing a black, corseted look with lace gloves and accessorised with pearls. The designer usually wore leather gloves along with his trademark white shirt and black suit combo.

Kim Kardashian paid homage to Lagerfeld’s love of pearls in a look by brand Schiaparelli, with the reality star and businesswoman telling Vogue: “What is more Karl than the iconic Chanel pearls?”

Her half-sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner were also in attendance - as were Salma Hayek, Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz-Beckham, Rita Ora and Kristen Stewart.

Bella Hadid, Beyoncé, Zendaya and Justin and Hailey Bieber were among the stars who did not attend.
