Messi-less Barcelona blanks Getafe thanks in part to goalkeeper assist (video)

Barcelona’s goalkeeper recorded an assist on the opening goal in a 2-0 victory at Getafe, the Catalans’ first away win this season.
Messi exited a midweek win over Villarreal after injuring his thigh muscle and didn’t make the squad Saturday. Luis Suarez and Junior Firpo scored either side of halftime to pick up the slack.
Suarez’s goal came in the 41st minute when he dinked a long ball over Getafe keeper David Soria. That long ball came courtesy of ter Stegen (via beIN Sports):
Just after halftime, Firpo gave Barca some breathing room by cleaning up Soria’s sloppy parry of Carles Perez’s shot:
Even amid the club’s worst La Liga start in 25 years and questions over manager Ernesto Valverde’s future, Barcelona is now second in the table.
When needed, even the goalkeeper can help rescue points.
