CAR REVIEW: Audi R8

THE SOLUTION: Audi R8

The R8 sees Audi take a step to the left, away from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, and towards Porsche and Aston Martin.

Designed by the blokes who penned the Le Mans LMP R8 racer, the R8 will stop traffic and give each and every person who sees it a funny feeling in their pants. It looks great in pictures, but it looks utterly magical in the metal – even Ferraris will glance sideways next to one of these.

The astonishing 4.2-litre V8 engine is borrowed from Audi’s RS4 and a large part of the chassis is borrowed from the Lamborghini Gallardo (Audi owns Lambo).

It’s so fluid, so precise, so good, you’ll wonder why anyone would bother with a 911 – it’s one of the all-time greats. And with the arrival of the V10 version, it just might become the all-time greatest.
