It’s looking up for Melania Trump, who has just been voted the third most admired woman in America this year ahead of The Queen and Oprah among others.

This is according to a new YouGov poll, which ranks the First Lady behind only former First Lady Michelle Obama (1) and jurist Ruth Bader Ginsburg (2).

The US First Lady has courted a fair amount of negative press in the past – most notably surrounding her outfit choices and her failure to intervene in husband US President Donald Trump’s more controversial policies.

A bizarre online rumour regarding a body double, or ‘fake Melania’ being used for official events has also dominated headlines, as has a strange monument to the first lady in her hometown.

Jump in popularity

But it would seem she has surged in popularity in the past year – jumping seven places compared to her position in the same ranking last year.

Former First Lady Hillary Clinton didn’t fare so well, dropping four places to eighth place.

Trump failed to sneak into the world’s most admired top 10 list, however, which was also compiled in the YouGov poll.

More than 42,000 people were interviewed across 41 countries to compile the list.

Michelle Obama, who earlier this year released bestselling memoir ‘Becoming’, topped this list as the world’s most admired woman – replacing last year’s leader Angelina Jolie.

As for the world’s most admired men according to YouGov, Bill Gates topped the list followed by Michelle Obama’s husband, former US President Barack Obama.

Barack topped the America’s most admired list, followed by Donald Trump.

A ranking of the UK’s most admired men and women was also compiled. Queen Elizabeth II topped the list, followed by Michelle Obama and then Dame Judi Dench.

For the men, it was David Attenborough followed by Barack Obama and then future monarch Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.
