After his regular public outbursts with the press have caused headaches for the royal family, it’s no surprise to hear that Meghan Markle’s relationship with her father Thomas Markle Snr. has been under serious strain.

Now, much to her father’s delight, Meghan is reportedly embarking on a secret trip back to America to meet with him and heal what’s become a bitter family rift between them, according to reports.

It seems enough is enough for Meghan – who celebrated her 37th birthday over the weekend – after sources claim she was “deeply embarrassed and hurt” by her father’s latest reference to the late Princess Diana.

Thomas had suggested that Diana would have ‘loathed’ the way the royal family have been treating him.

Thomas, 74, is now “keeping two dates free at the end of the month” in order to reunite with his daughter which he has claimed is all he wanted, a source told the Mirror.

“The possibility of a reunion has been discussed and Meghan looks set to incorporate it into her trip,” the source said.

“The location and exact dates will be top secret for both their sakes. It is a very sensitive time for them, but the intent seems to be to heal the rift.”

This will be the first time Meghan has seen her father since before her wedding to Prince Harry – which her father pulled out of due to health concerns.

Thomas was meant to be the one to walk Meghan down the aisle, however, he allegedly suffered a heart attack after selling staged paparazzi photos to the media.

After his interviews with the press have been spiralling out of control, the Palace has held three “top-level” crisis meetings about how to deal with the Duchess of Sussex’s family, the Mirror reports.

And according to experts, the decision to send Meghan is the right thing to do:

“Harry and Meghan have tried ignoring the Markles, but it’s not working. Before things get even more embarrassing for the royal family, they must try to build bridges,” Phil Dampier, author of Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan in their Own Words, told
