Meghan Markle’s former Suits co-star Patrick J. Adams has issued an apology after he shared a photo on Instagram of a woman he claims criticised his appearance at the royal wedding.

The 36-year-old actor had initially shared a photo of a woman sleeping in a chair at the airport, along with a caption in which he said the lady called him ‘chunky’.

“She reads her paper. See’s picture of me and Troian from wedding,” Patrick is said to have written.

“‘My God. What a terrible photo of you.’ I look over. ‘Really. I kind of like that photo. What do you think is wrong with it?’ She pauses. ‘Well, you’re just so….chunky,’” he continued.

“She laughs and falls asleep…. And …. scene,” he then wrote.

Since then, fans have accused the television star of bullying the woman, and now Patrick has issued an apology.

“Yesterday I posted a photo of a woman who did some casual body shaming of my wife and I in the airport,” he wrote to his over 2.2 million followers.

“My intention was solely to put a face to the people who think that sort of glancing commentary is necessary, helpful or funny. Some of the comments on the post instead said I was being a bully and should have taken the “high road” (some also doubled down on the body shaming. Thumbs up guys!)” he continued.

“I thought it over and agreed and took it down, not because I felt the woman was right or fair or undeserving of being called out but because any sense of being a bully or lashing out felt wrong.”

Patrick said he’s “no bully”, and that “what that woman said to us was offensive and unnecessary but I should have told her she was rude and out of line and left it at that”.

“I’m sorry I didn’t,” he admitted.

“I was too shocked and annoyed and Canadian – so I avoided the confrontation. Again, I’m sorry.”

The TV star then reiterated that in hindsight, the best way to have dealt with the situation would have been to speak to the woman directly and not post anything online.

Patrick and a string of his fellow Suits cast members were invited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding over the weekend.

He brought his Pretty Little Liars star wife Troian Bellisario with him, and for the record Patrick, we think you looked great!
