Meghan Markle's pal wears 'naked' dress to Golden Globes party
It was back in May last year when Meghan Markle’s pal Janina Gavankar revealed no big-name fashion designers wanted to dress her for the royal wedding.
But since speaking about the wardrobe disaster, the True Blood actress has had no trouble getting access to some stylish threads as 2019 awards season kicks off in Hollywood.
The 38-year-old wore a racy design by international fashion house Berta to the InStyle and Warner Bros. Golden Globes afterparty in LA.
“About last night! Thank you @instylemagazine & @wbpictures for endless dipping pretzels,” the star wrote on Instagram next to a full-length shot of herself.
The star’s dress featuring sheer fabric and delicate lace left very little to the imagination, and follows the ‘naked’ dress trend modelled by a string of stars in the past, such as Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid.
When Janina attended close pal Meghan Markle’s nuptials in May last year, she revealed no one wanted to dress her.
“Thank you to everyone inquiring about today’s dress! Here’s the real story: As many do for events of this kind, my stylist @NikiSchwan & I reached out to designers and showrooms. …No one was responsive,” she revealed on Instagram.
“Luckily, @westerncostumecompany generously opened the doors to their private vintage archive, and we chose this 1930’s dress and 1940s hat. Which we paired with @coomijewels Jewels, @sigersonmorrison pumps and a @ysl clutch.”
On the day, many royal wedding spectators were also left wondering, ‘Who is the woman in the orange dress?’

Later she came clean on why her identity was a major mystery, and it’s all because the actress forgot to do one essential thing.
“I was the only person who didn’t tell my publicists to announce that I was going [to the royal wedding],” she told Bustle.
“In some ways, I was so naive.”
Janina said she didn’t approach Meghan and Prince Harry’s wedding like she would with a usual Hollywood red carpet, where event organisers are informed of her attendance in advance, so “cheat sheets” can be laid out with her face and name.
“This wasn’t a Hollywood thing! This was just a wedding, y’all! So I didn’t think that I needed to announce that I was going,” she explained.
