Fans all over the world are patiently waiting for news of the royal baby’s arrival, after it was speculated that Meghan Markle’s due date was on Sunday.

And if the 37-year-old Duchess of Sussex has indeed passed her due date, one midwife claims she will be under extra scrutiny because of her age.

While it may sound bizarre, expectant mums over the age of 35 are considered to have a ‘geriatric pregnancy’.

“She is likely to have been offered increased care in these last weeks and days of her pregnancy, possibly including scans to confirm the wellbeing of her baby,” Liz Halliday, Deputy Head of Midwifery at Private Midwives told The Sun

“Although The Duchess of Sussex may have some very slightly increased risk factors due to her age, induction of labour carries risks itself and these should be fully discussed as part of balanced discussion.”

And it seems Meghan is taking no chances when it comes to her labour, with previous reports stating that she’s hired a doula to bring ’calm and positive energy’ into the room.

The doula is rumoured to be Lauren Mishcon, who reportedly visited Meghan at her home in Oxfordshire and at Kensington Palace several times during her pregnancy.

It’s also been claimed that Meghan may want to have a home birth, like the Queen did for each of her children.

Despite falling into the ‘geriatric’ category, Meghan certainly isn’t the only royal to get pregnant in her late 30s.

In fact, the Queen was just about to turn 38 when she gave birth to Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

Later, Prince Edward’s wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, was two months shy of her 39th birthday when she had their first child, Lady Louise, and just a month short of her 43rd birthday when she delivered their second, James.

And having Prince Louis when she was 36, Meghan’s sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge’s last pregnancy was also considered a ‘geriatric’ one.
