Meghan Markle won't be able to celebrate this pregnancy milestone

From Prince Harry’s gushing tributes, to Meghan Markle cradling her baby bump while on tour, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have clearly been cherishing the journey since announcing they’ll become parents next year.

But there’s a special moment during Meghan’s pregnancy that the Duke and Duchess won’t be able to experience and celebrate if royal tradition is followed.

Usually parents can choose to learn of the sex of their unborn baby at the 16-20 week mark of pregnancy, which Meghan is said to have reached.

Breaking royal tradition

However royals, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, have historically opted not to found out the gender of their baby.

If the former Suits star decides not to break royal tradition, she won’t get to celebrate this exciting moment which many other parents choose to.

What royal experts say

“Knowing the sex in advance is more American than British,” royal expert and historian Marlene Koenig told Harper’s Bazaar.

“I will be surprised if they know the sex in advance. If they find out, they will not be telling the world. I cannot think of any British or European royal announcing the sex of a child before the announcement is made.”

Harry wants a baby girl

Prince Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, announced last month while on their royal tour of Australia, that they are expecting their first child together.

During a cycling race in Sydney during the tour, Harry let slip what gender he hopes his baby will be.

“Congratulations, I hope it’s a girl,” a well-wisher is reported to have called out to the Duke, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Duke then reportedly responded by saying: “So do I!”.
