All eyes were on Meghan Markle back in February, when she surprised fans and the press with a lavish baby shower in New York.

But apparently the Duchess of Sussex didn’t want it to look like she was lapping up so much attention, and she’d even gone to some lengths to request a more private exit from the luxe event to avoid paparazzi.

According to The Sun, documents from the US State Department reveal that the 38-year-old wife of Prince Harry was keen to change the ‘optics’ of her swift departure from New York’s The Mark Hotel.

“The VIP [Meghan] explained that her intent was to change the literal optics of the departure, making it appear that she was at least attempting to sneak out of the hotel in photos rather than exiting through the main entrance and giving the potential impression that she was enjoying the media attention,” states the report.

However, it appears her request couldn’t be met, as leaving via the service entrance meant the cars would’ve have to be moved to align with that door.

At the time, Meghan made headlines when a whole stream of A-listers were spotted arriving at the five-star hotel for her lavish baby shower.

Serena Williams, Amal Clooney and Meghan’s best friend and stylist, Jessica Mulroney, all arrived with opulent gifts for the shower, which cost $660,000, according to the Daily Mail.

Angela Levin, who wrote Harry: A Biography of a Prince, believed Meghan’s show of wealth showed a ‘lack of respect’ for the royal family.

“Being royal comes with duties and obligations quite different from those of Hollywood,” she told the Mail on Sunday.

“Yet I am not so sure this is something she accepts, unlike her husband.”

Angela believed Prince Harry needed to be more a guidance to Meghan, who joined the royal family last May.

Meghan and Harry went on to welcome their first son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on May 6.
