Meghan Markle and Prince Harry 'flew commercial' to friend's Italian wedding

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have stepped out in Italy to attend Meghan’s pal, fashion designer Misha Nonoo’s lavish wedding to oil heir Michael Hess.

The Duke and Duchess were dressed to the nines for Friday’s luxe ceremony in Rome, with the new mum opting for a near-$16.5k black Valentino gown while her husband looked dapper in black tie.

Despite the exxy price tag of the duchess’ outfit, it’s reported that the royal couple made the 2.5-hour flight from London to the Italian capital on a commercial airline.

The Sussexes ditch private jet

According to royal correspondent Emily Andrews, new parents Meghan and Harry took a commercial flight to attend Bahrain-born Misha’s big day.

Their four-month-old son Archie Harrison reportedly remained in the UK, no doubt in the capable hands of one of his nannies.

The choice to ditch their private jet in favour of a cheap commercial ticket may be a strategic one, in light of the backlash Meghan and Harry received last month.

The couple, who are vocal about their support for environmental issues, was branded hypocritical after embarking on four private jet journeys in as many days.

The self-styled eco-warriors were further shown up when Harry’s older brother William and his wife Kate flew into Scotland on budget carrier FlyBe.

Misha’s match-making ways

Bride Misha has been a good friend of the ex-Suits star's for several years and infamously set Meghan up with her now-husband, Prince Harry.

The businesswoman-cum-designer was herself raised in London and has close ties to the royal family. Misha was previously wed to Paddle8 founder Alexander Gilkes, one of Harry's best friends from Eton College, until 2016.

Proving their friendship has gone the distance, Meghan and Misha recently teamed up to create a capsule collection benefiting the UK women’s charity, Smart Works.

Misha was also on hand to celebrate at the duchess’ intimate baby shower in New York City earlier this year and, along with her soon-to-be-husband Michael, also attended Meghan and Harry’s 2018 nuptials.

“She is an extraordinarily supportive, kind and loving friend,” Misha told People of her royal pal after the launch of their capsule collection last week.

“From the beginning of our relationship we bonded over our shared ethos about supporting other women - it was something that we absolutely felt, and as friends who support each other over the years, you see that,” she added.

Misha’s A-list wedding guests

The royal couple weren’t the only famous faces on Misha and Michael’s guest list.

Other A-list invitees to the “wedding of the year” included newly engaged Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, model Karlie Kloss and husband Joshua Kushner along with his brother Jared Kushner and wife Ivanka Trump.

Harry’s cousins, Princesses Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, were also spotted at Villa Aurelia, the 17th-century venue overlooking the city of Rome.

Unfortunately for all of us, guests have been prohibited from posting anything on social media until official photos are released.

The festivities are set to continue the following day, with plans for bespoke guided tours of Rome ahead of another gala event back at the Cinecitta studios, the country’s biggest film studios and the location of Federico Fellini’s 1950s film La Dolce Vita.

No word yet if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will stick around for the fun as they are expected to depart on their 10-day royal tour of South Africa on Monday.
