Prince Andrew’s car crash Epstein interview and the aftermath it inspired has sent the royal family into a state of defence that hasn’t been seen in decades.

Now, as the public positions itself at a disapproving distance from the embattled duke, those on the inside are also making ultimatums of their own.

At the centre of this discontentment is proud feminist Meghan Markle, who is reportedly ‘absolutely repulsed’ by the allegations against her uncle-in-law.

“Meghan refused to go to the Queen’s Christmas festivities because she knew Andrew would be there, even before this interview came out, proving all her suspicions are correct that he’s a terrible man,” a palace insider told Woman’s Day.

Picking sides

The publication went on to claim the Duchess of Sussex eventually gave Harry an ultimatum, which would see her and Archie not attend any family events where Andrew is present.

“It’s a tough predicament for Harry to be in, since Andrew will continue to be invited to private occasions by the Queen and he really has no sway with her on this,” the source said.

“Ultimately though...[Harry] will turn his back on Andrew, the Queen, or even Prince Charles if he has to just to make sure [Meghan’s] happy.”

Despite the dramatic stance, many members of the family are also distancing themselves from Prince Andrew after his widely-panned sit-down with the BBC focusing on his friendship with convicted peadophile Jeffrey Epstein.

He has since stepped down from royal duties, becoming the first royal family member to do so in decades.

Long-standing claims

Among the most heinous allegations against the prince is that he had sex with Virginia Roberts on several occasions in 2001 when she was just 17 years old.

Ms Roberts has alleged she and Prince Andrew dined together and went to a nightclub in London before the first time they allegedly had sex.

However, Prince Andrew has ‘categorically’ denied having sex with Ms Roberts who alleges they had sex on three occasions.

"I can absolutely categorically tell you it never happened," the Duke of York said.

"I've said consistently and frequently that we never had any sort of sexual contact whatever.

"I have no recollection of ever meeting this lady, none whatsoever.”
