Meghan and Doria to be 'weighed' before Christmas dinner with the Queen

It’s set to be Meghan Markle’s second festive season with the royal family, but her mum, Doria Ragland, will be joining her this year and may get a shock after finishing up her turkey on Christmas Day.

Royal expert and editor of Majesty magazine Ingrid Seward, told Grazia that the Queen has a very bizarre tradition at Sandringham, which would leave any guest feeling awkward.

The 92-year-old Monarch reportedly makes everyone around the table weigh themselves before and after they dig into their Christmas Day dinner.

However, Queen Elizabeth has good intentions, as according to Ingrid, she just wants to make sure her guests are ‘well fed’ on the day.

The royal clan are also expected to ‘enter the dining room in order of seniority’ and wear paper hats, which are usually found in Christmas crackers around the table.

Other traditions on the day that Doria will have to take part in are more laid-back and include a stroll around the grounds of Sandringham after afternoon tea, before the whole family sit down together for an evening meal.

There will also be no presents to open at the castle, as according to royal tradition, the family open up their gifts on Christmas Eve.

Royal experts were socked at the start of this month when it was revealed that the Queen broke royal protocol to invite Meghan’s mum to Christmas dinner.

The “very thoughtful gesture” is apparently without precedent, with Prince William’s in-laws the Middletons never receiving the same invite.

“It’s a mark of the Queen’s respect for Meghan and an acknowledgement that she doesn’t have any other relations in this country – unlike Kate who has the support of a very close family,” the Express reports.

It’s not the first time the Queen has been lax about royal traditions, as last year Meghan joined Prince Harry to celebrate the private festivities with the royals, something the Queen would usually never allow unless the couple were married.
