The Meaning Behind Simone Biles’ Sparkly Goat Necklace Is Iconic

Simone Biles cemented her status as the GOAT (aka greatest of all time) with *the* most fitting necklace. After winning the all-around final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which landed the athlete her second gold of the Games and her sixth Olympic gold (she also has one silver, two bronze, and 30 World Championship medals to her name, NBD), the Texas native quickly put on a sparkly goat necklace in celebration. In case ya didn't know, the goat around the gymnast's neck is a reference to her "greatest of all time" status as the most heavily-decorated gymnast in history *and* the US gymnast with the most Olympic medals. The charm was designed by Janet Heller Fine Jewelry and features a whopping 546 diamonds on the goat’s body.

Due to lacking the right words at the moment for how iconic Simone's necklace is, we'll let Twitter X users do it for us:

During a subsequent press conference, Simone opened up about the significance of the accessory and people's reactions to it. "My GOAT necklace is just kind of an ode because the people love it and then some people hate it, so it’s like the best of both worlds," she began, according to Cosmopolitan's Olympics correspondent Kristy Alpert. "And I was like 'Okay, if it goes well, we’ll wear the GOAT necklace. I know people will go crazy over it.' But at the end of the day, it is crazy that I am in the conversation of greatest of all athletes, because I just still think I’m Simone Biles from Spring, Texas that just loves to flip."

Truly couldn't be more obsessed with her if we tried!

As for the origin of the goat graphic—which btw Simone has used in prior competitions on other accessories such as her leotards—Simone dished the following during a 2021 convo with Marie Claire: "The idea was to hit back at the haters. I didn't feel like it was necessarily fair how they could keep saying whatever they wanted, but then if I said something, it wasn't fair. [The haters] were joking like, 'I swear, if she put a goat on her [leotard], blah, blah, blah.' That would make them so angry. And then I was like, 'Oh, that's actually a good idea. Let's make the haters hate it, and the fans love it.'"

TL;DR: Simone is quite literally winning in every sense of the word.
