MAFS's Michael faces fierce backlash over 'all lives matter' post

Married At First Sight’s Michael Goonan has been blasted online after posting an image to Instagram amid the protests over the death of George Floyd.

Michael, who has 127,000 followers on Instagram, took to his social media page yesterday to upload an image of a colourful kaleidoscope, alongside the caption: “This is 2020! Enough is ENOUGH...- we are one! (All lives matter equally)”

Although his post may have been well intentioned, the former reality star faced a barrage of backlash for the tone-deaf caption.

“Not “all lives” are subjected to police brutality, systematic racism and prejudice. You’ve completely missed the point,” one person commented on the post.

“Of course all lives matter! Most rational people feel like that. But not ALL lives are having problems right now. Black people have been persecuted against for a very long time and their fight continues to this day, so that’s why we need to say their lives matter right now. People saying “all lives matter” minimises black peoples' fight. Understand that their problems aren’t an attack on your life but them just wanting equality. Joining their fight will bring us all closer together not further apart,” another person wrote.

One person simply said: “Your white privilege is showing”, while another commented saying: ”Do some research before you speak!!”

One person even directed Michael to singer Billie Eilish’s Instagram account, after she posted a powerful message on Saturday slamming the ‘All Lives Matter’ movement.

"I've been trying to take this week to figure out a way to address this delicately," she began her statement.

"I have an enormous platform and I try really hard to be respectful and take time to think through what I say and how I say it. But holy f-cking sh-t, I'm just gonna start talking."

"If I hear one more white person say "aLL liVeS maTtEr" one more f-cking time, I'm gonna lose my f-cking mind," she continued.

"Will you shut the f-ck up? No one is saying your life is not hard. No one is saying literally anything at all about you. All you mfs do is find a way to make everything about yourself."
