Mariska Hargitay, Willie Geist Quietly Aid Passersby ’Like an Episode of ‘Law & Order’ While Out in NYC
Mariska Hargitay and Willie Geist made no fanfare when a recent professional meeting turned into a rescue operation—twice!
According to an onlooker who spoke exclusively with Page Six, neither the journalist nor the actress hesitated to jump into action when two separate pedestrians required aid near the Manhattan courthouse where they gathered to film an upcoming Sunday Today interview.

The bystander revealed that the Today anchor was standing on a street corner waiting for the Law & Order: SVU star to arrive on the scene when a woman who used a cane for support fell in the crosswalk. "Willie helped her up and walked her” the rest of the way across the street, according to the source.
Hargitay arrived shortly thereafter, but another pedestrian in an electric wheelchair “lost control when the wheel fell off.”
Both parties, plus the cameraman, are said to have "rushed to his aid."
"Willie and the guy with the camera hoisted the man up in his chair while Mariska fixed the wheel,” the witness recalled.
It was just “like an episode of Law & Order,” they added—and it's not the first time, at least for Hargitay, who was once mistaken for a real-life police officer by a lost child.
A representative for the morning broadcast confirmed the incident to the publication, revealing that the interview will air on Jan. 12, 2025. There's no word on whether or not the camera happened to catch any of the IRL heroism, but it seems like a safe bet that the two may share their sides of the story in the upcoming segment.
