Wallowing Over Your Breakup Will Help You Get Over It Faster, Says New Study

A new study says wallowing over your past relationship may actually help you get over it faster.

According to researchers at the Northwestern University and the University of Arizona, it's perfectly healthy to cry over romantic comedies at the drop of a hat following a split.

To reach the conclusion, they invited participants who had recently experienced a non-marital breakup to take part in an experiment, splitting them into two test groups.

The first simply had to fill out a questionnaire at the beginning and end of a nine-week period, while the second group took part in some serious reflection.

The results? Those who examined every angle of their past relationship reported feeling better than those who kept it to themselves.

Apparently, that's because dwelling on the details can help you with your "self-concept," or your identity outside of being in a couple.

"I would encourage a person who recently experienced a breakup to consider who he or she is, apart from the relationship," researcher Grace Larson said.

Just don't go all Carrie Bradshaw and bore your friends to death with all the details.
